Custard Factory plays host to cream of gaming community for GEEK festival

BIRMINGHAM’S Custard Factory is to host a gaming festival after persuading organisers they should abandon the South East in favour of the Second City.

GEEK is a festival of Play and Games held annually in Margate, but now the organisers are bringing the brand to Birmingham for the first time, working side by side with leading industry players Replay events.

The event, which takes place between September 19 and 21, is entitled Heroes and Villains. It will feature something for game players of all ages, with modern and retro games consoles, tournaments and cosplay.

Players can choose from Playstation, Xbox, Nintendo, Game Cube, Sega, Atari, Commodore, Spectrum, PC or LAN and there will be hundreds of classic and modern games to play, including Super Smash Bros, Minecraft, FIFA, Pong, Donkey Konga, Golden Eye, DJ Hero, SF II, RalliSport Challenge 2 and many more.

The Heroes and Villains Zone will see Batman, Superman and Mario do battle against the Joker, Lex Luthor, Wario and more.

There will also be movie props and a market, while Transformers Bumblebee and Barricade will be in and around Birmingham on their way to the Custard Factory, where they will be on show from 1pm on Saturday (September 20). There will also be a special prize for the best Transformer costume.
