Traffic volumes rise along M6 Toll

TRAFFIC volumes along the M6 Toll have seen an improvement as operators claim improved customer confidence in the route.

Latest figures from road operator Midland Expressway show that in the July to September period traffic volumes for all days rose 2.27% compared to the same quarter last year.

For workdays, traffic rose 0.95% to 48,767 (2013: 48, 309), while for weekends and public holidays the figures jumped 6.65% to 37,543 (2013: 35,201). For all days, the figure was 45,473 (2013: 44,462).

“Traffic by its nature is very seasonal and we are pleased to see continued growth in all class categories,” said MEL.

“This underlines the confidence that our customers place in our service as a reliable alternative to the unpredictable conditions that continue daily on the competing free section of the M6.

“We are very pleased to continue to provide a first class premier and totally reliable service to our customers.”

Latest full year results in August showed losses declining for MEL. Nevertheless, the company still made a pre-tax loss of £32.50m (2012: £36.73m) for the year ended December 31, 2013.
