West Midlands to receive more than £6.9m funding to improve local services

LOCAL government minister Kris Hopkins announced today that organisations in the West Midlands will share a £6.932m investment pot for improvements to local services.

Announcing the regional share of the £89.4m Transformation Challenge Award, he said: “The West Midlands has shown what can be done to improve the services people get and reduce the costs of public services.
 
“By working with others, local public bodies are eliminating waste and creating services which help people first time – not services which send people from pillar to post to get problems sorted.”

Amongst the local recipients of the funding is the Youth Employability Support Partnership (Coventry and Warwickshire) which has been awarded £100,000 to  help improve the transition of young people into sustainable employment in the local area.

And, in what could be a significant move, Birmingham City Council – have been offered capital flexibility allowing it to spend the proceeds of asset sales for revenue purposes.
