Flybe expands services out of Birmingham with two new routes

AIRLINE Flybe is expanding its flights out of Birmingham with the addition of two new services.

The airline, already the largest carrier in terms of passenger volumes at the airport, has announced that from next summer it will be operating services to Bastia (Corsica) and Biarritz.

The expansion will take the airline’s service offering out of Birmingham to 25 routes with choice of up to 336 flights a week.

The news also marks a further expansion of services at Birmingham, which has already seen a clutch of new operators and routes heading to the airport following the extension to its runway and facilities upgrade.

Next summer will also see the airline begin flights to Berlin-Tegel; while there will also be increased frequency on its Amsterdam route with a choice of up to four flights a day.

The airline has also announced that its ski route to Chambery will extend through to April 2015 to accommodate Easter holiday travel; and flights to regional France are boosted with the return for peak summer travel of weekend services to Avignon, Brest and La Rochelle.

Paul Simmons, Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer, said: “We are pleased to add two more new routes from our Birmingham base and to increase our popular weekday Amsterdam flights up to four flights a day. Over the last 12 months we have continued to grow and develop the airline to provide the most cost-effective, efficient and flexible service for our passengers. Our 2015 Summer schedule boosts further the large selection of flights to great city and sun destinations from Birmingham.”

Bastia is located on the northern tip of Corsica and the city is a thriving ferry and cruise port. The French city of Biarritz, located on the Atlantic coast close to the Spanish border on the Bay of Biscay, is a luxurious seaside town that is also host to one of the world’s premier longboard events and as such is popular as a surfing destination.

William Pearson, Aviation Development Director at Birmingham Airport, said: “Next summer is promising to be an exciting time at Birmingham Airport, following Flybe’s decision to introduce two brand new routes.

“Flybe’s summer 15 schedule will provide Birmingham passengers with even greater choice and flexibility.”

Tickets for the flights are now on sale via the Flybe website, with prices starting at £24.99 one way including taxes and charges. Flights will operate between March 29 and September 3.
