Weston takes the reins as Aggreko CEO

THE long wait for portable power supplier Aggreko’s new chief executive officer to start work is over.

The Cannock-based firm announced back in May that Chris Weston would be its new CEO but contractual obligations have meant that he has been unable to get going in his new role until today.

As a result, Ken Hanna has now reverted to his previous role as non-executive chairman.

Weston will spend his first few months travelling around the business, meeting employees and other key stakeholders, in order to understand the business and its fundamentals.

He said: “I am very excited to be joining Aggreko today. It is a fascinating business with a great product, fantastic culture and attractive markets and I look forward to working with the management team to develop the company further in the coming years.

“I would like to thank Ken Hanna for assuming the role of Executive Chairman and leading the business over the last few months.”

Weston joins from Centrica, where he was managing director of the group’s International Downstream division. In this role he was operationally responsible for both British Gas in the UK and Direct Energy in the US, with revenues of £22bn, profits of £1.3bn and more than 35,000 employees.

He joined Centrica in 2001 after a career in the telecoms industry, working for both Cable & Wireless and One.Tel. Before that, he served in the Royal Artillery.
