Cannock courier APC stages recruitment event for former City Link staff

STAFFORDSHIRE parcels delivery group, APC Overnight, will today host a recruitment day to try and find work for some of the hundreds of workers made redundant following the collapse over Christmas of City Link.

The Cannock company was one of the first to step in and offer a potential lifeline to workers at the Coventry-based group. It is making up to 100 jobs available and will give former City Link employees preferential treatment.

APC, the UK’s largest independent parcel delivery company, will host the recruitment open day at its national sortation centre in Cannock with the specific intention of recruiting former City Link employees.

The nationwide courier, founded in 1994, is on a growth drive and has already made a number of appointments at its hub and throughout its 115 outlets across the UK. Today’s (Tuesday) event is to provide further information on current vacancies

Karl Brown, APC CEO, said: “This is an extremely difficult time for City Link staff members and their families. Following discussions with board members we’ve made the decision to prioritise City Link staff for the job vacancies we currently have on offer.”

The recruitment day take place midday and 5pm and the company said those who had already submitted applications would be contacted with an invitation to attend.

APC Overnight Head of Human Resources, Emma Scott said: “We’ve organised the recruitment day to provide further information on the roles we currently have on offer. There are some highly talented people out there at the moment that are unfortunately now having to look for new jobs and we want to do all we can to make them aware of some of the opportunities that are available to them here at APC.”

Meanwhile, administrators from EY have today reached an agreement with DX (Group), a leading AIM-quoted, independent parcels, mail and logistics network operator, to sell certain City Link assets for £1.125m. The assets sold comprise cages, scanners and certain intellectual property.

Hunter Kelly, one of the joint administrators, said: “This transaction represents our first step in realising the value of City Link’s assets. We will continue this process over the coming weeks, alongside conducting an orderly wind down of the company’s operations.”

Petar Cvetkovic, Chief Executive of DX, said: “It is very sad that City Link has been unable to continue as a going concern, particularly for its employees and contractors. The administrators are now proceeding with an orderly sale of assets and we have made a limited investment to acquire certain assets. We are also doing all we can to provide opportunities for former City Link employees and contractors and to offer solutions to customers who may need a new carrier.”
