Browne Jacobson announces managing partner

LAW firm Browne Jacobson’s managing partner Iain Blatherwick has been unanimously re-appointed for a further three years by the firm’s 96-strong partnership.

The firm, which has an office in Birmingham, has undergone significant growth since seen Blatherwick took over the strategic direction and development of the firm from Brian Smith in May 2009.

During his stewardship he has steered the firm towards a record breaking turnover of £50.2m as well as overseeing the opening of new offices in Manchester and Exeter and, more recently, the relocation of its London office.  He has also spearheaded the firm’s successful Lexcel re-accreditation and a three star exceptional client service rating from Investors in Customers, making Browne Jacobson the first UK law firm to achieve the standard.

He has also guided significant investment in infrastructure and growth across all areas of the business. Overall headcount has increased by more than 50% since his appointment; taking the workforce to over 800 people spread across its five-office network.

The firm has also successfully re-tendered to many of its biggest clients and in the last 18 months has added new clients in both the public and private sectors, including Morrisons, The Trustee of the liquidation of Bernard L Madoff Investment Securities, The Independent Parliamentary Standards Association, NHS England and The Crown Commercial Service, amongst others.

Derek Bambury, Senior Partner, said: “Browne Jacobson has been transformed under Iain’s strong leadership. Whilst there are many people who have contributed to that success it is fair to say that Iain has been one of the prominent forces behind the consistent and highly successful growth realised by the firm. We are very lucky that someone of Iain’s skill, wisdom and tenacity is at the helm to take us forward as we aim to continue to grow and strengthen the business over the next three years.”

Blatherwick added: “I am very grateful to receive the partnership’s full support for another term. The firm’s successes to date could have not been achieved without the incredible hard work of our people and continued support of our clients. I am looking forward to working with all my colleagues to continue to deliver the firm’s vision.”
