Radisson Blu confirms new hotel for Birmingham

THE owner of the Radisson Blu hotel chain has confirmed it is to open a new hotel in Birmingham serving the city’s airport.

The announcement is a further shot in the arm to the airport, which is looking to raise its profile within international markets following the extension of its runway.

Having such a high profile hotel operator on the airport’s doorstep will give the hub an important marketing advantage and news of the hotel comes at a time when the airport has recently confirmed it is to extend charter flights to China.

Radisson Blu said the new hotel would create synergies for the group, which already has a flagship hotel in Birmingham city centre.

The company has not revealed the exact site of the new hotel or the size of its investment. However, confirmation of the facility is included on the company’s website, where it states the facility should be open in 2017.

Middle Eastern property investors acquired the city centre hotel out of administration in January in a multi-million pound deal.

Royal Gulf Ltd, part of Dubai-based real estate business Select Group, purchased the business and assets from KPMG after the firm was appointed administrator to the property holding company in December 2011. The hotel was previously part of Beetham Hotels Birmingham.
