Kraft merger nothing to do with us, says Cadbury’s

BIRMINGHAM chocolate maker Cadbury’s has distanced itself from the mega-merger that has taken place between US food giants Kraft Foods and Heinz.

Despite early reports suggesting a link with the local firm, Cadbury’s hasn’t been owned by Kraft Foods since 2012. Kraft did buy Cadbury’s but the chocolate firm is now owned by Mondelez, which spun out of Kraft three years’ ago.

Kraft mainly deals in products such as meat, pasta while Mondelez specialises in chocolate, sweets, biscuits and coffee.

Kraft Foods has agreed to merge with HJ Heinz Company to form the fifth-largest food group in the world.

There could local ramifications from the deal, though, as Heinz has plants in Telford and Leamington Spa.
