IN A Sunday Times Rich List dominated in West Midlands terms by business figures, the biggest winners are Bet365 founders the Coates family who have added £1.15bn to their fortune in a year.

The rich list, to be published in the newspaper on Sunday, reveals the wealth of the 1,000 richest people in Britain.

The West Midlands segment is headed by Ernesto and Kirsty Bertarelli with wealth of £9.45bn.

Staffordshire-born Kirsty Bertarelli is Britain’s richest woman. A singer-songwriter is married to Italian-born pharmaceuticals magnate Ernesto Bertarelli.

In second place is JCB founder Lord Bamford and family with a fortune of £3.1bn.

In third place are Denise, John and Peter Coates – the Stoke City chairman – with £2.35bn, based on their betting empire, and in fourth is Phones 4u founder John Caudwell with £1.45bn.

Other notable businessmen to figure in the list include Wolverhampton Wanderers owner Steve Morgan, at number six with £640m, construction firm boss Tony Gallagher at seventh equal with £550m, a position he shares with entrepreneur Sir Peter Rigby.

HomeServe boss Richard Harpin is in 14th position with £218m, having added £21m to his fortune in a year.

Ranjit and Baljinder Boparan, who run the food group 2 Sisters, are new entrants at 18 with wealth of £160m.
