The Future of Automotive: Opportunities for the supply chain

THE growth of the automotive industry during the past few years has done much to revive the economic fortunes of the West Midlands.

Companies such as Jaguar Land Rover have pumped billions of pounds into the development of new production facilities and models, while investment has also been forthcoming from the likes of BMW, Mini, Honda, Nissan, Aston Martin and many others.

With thousands of new jobs already created and many pledged for the future, the industry is in a healthy position. So too is the component supply chain, which relies on the success of the main manufacturers for its own triumphs.

As the country stands poised on the brink of a new Government, many are asking if this success can be sustained.

With this in mind, TheBusinessDesk.com has joined forces with Lloyds Bank, MHA Bloomer Heaven and Irwin Mitchell to assess the strength of the automotive supply chain whether it is capable of meeting future demands.

Our latest supplement assesses the current state of the industry, what challenges lie ahead for the automotive sector and whether the next Government will commit to the policies which can help to sustain an industry that has undergone a drastic renaissance from the dark days of 2009 when many of the manufacturers were forced to go cap-in-hand to the Government to ask for help to survive.

Latest sales figures show the UK car market enjoyed its strongest month this century in March, with domestic demand for British-built cars helping to sustain output.

British-built cars are also selling in record numbers around the globe although the challenging Eurozone situation continues to pose challenges to the industry.

Nevertheless, trade bodies such as The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders are confident that output will continue to remain strong for some time to come, heralding a busy time for the industry and all the jobs it helps to support.
