West Midlands firms to deliver £80m Leeds scheme

BIRMINGHAM cost and project management consultancy DBK has been appointed project manager and employer’s agent to the multi-million pound mixed use Tower Works project at Holbeck Urban Village, Leeds.

Outline proposals for the £80m pound scheme include 92,000 sq ft of commercial office space, 20,000 sq ft of retail, restaurant and bars and around 147 new canal-side apartments.

The 1.04 hectare site is an old industrial location which houses three Italianate towers.  It is these grade two listed buildings which give the site its name.

DBK has been appointed by Wolverhampton construction giant Carillion which was selected by the Homes & Communities Agency as the preferred development partner.

Stuart Dean, director at DBK said: “This is an exciting large scale scheme that heralds a new era for the forward thinking heritage-rich Urban Village area.

“DBK has significant expertise in delivering complicated long-term projects that are loaded with history, and inevitably, listed and historic buildings.

“We are thrilled to be part of transforming the Carillion vision to reality, enhancing the surrounding area and delivering a sustainable new destination for many.”

Gareth Jackson, development director for Carillion Developments said: “This is an excellent development site in Leeds city centre which forms a key part of the Leeds City skyline.

“DBK has a successful track record in delivering complex place making projects and the synergies were obvious to us.

“We look forward to working with Stuart Dean and his team at DBK to deliver our exciting proposals for Tower Works.”

DBK is currently appointed on a number of large scale historic schemes including the 42-acre London Battersea Power Station development and the redevelopment of Birmingham’s Mailbox, the UK’s second largest mixed use development.
