£150m Resorts World Birmingham gets royal seal of approval

THE new £150m Resorts World Birmingham leisure and entertainment complex at the NEC has been given the royal seal of approval.

The hotel and casino development hosted a visit by The Duke of Kent while he was in the West Midlands completing several functions.

During his visit, the Duke was greeted by Genting UK President and Chief Operating Officer Peter Brooks, who escorted him on a tour of the complex as the final phase of its fit out takes place ahead of its opening later this summer.

The venue is expected to have a transformational impact on the visitor experience to the NEC site, offering a wide range of new bars and restaurants, an outlet shopping mall, 11-screen cinema, casino, four star hotel and spa and conference and banqueting facilities all under one roof.

The development, unique to the UK, is the result of a direct investment of £150m by the Malaysian owned Genting Group. It is expected to create 1,150 jobs once it is open.

When Resorts World Birmingham opens it will create 1150 full time equivalent jobs and be home to some of the highest profile and most popular hospitality and retail brands as well as range of new and exciting bars and restaurants developed specifically by Genting UK for the complex.

During the tour he was introduced to members of the construction team and was shown the atrium which is central to the complex. He also met Dato’ Sri C Y Lee, President and Chief Operating Officer of Genting Malaysia, the leader of Solihull Borough Council, Cllr Bob Sleigh and senior executives from the NEC Group.

Peter Brooks said: “This was a special day for Genting UK and for Resorts World Birmingham. We are now well advanced with the development and the fit out is under way for our opening in late summer.”
