Shoosmiths raids SGH Martineau again

BIRMINGHAM law firm Shoosmiths – which last month swooped to hire SGH Martineau’s head of retail Kathy Toon – has returned to take two more senior lawyers from its city rival.

It has now appointed Andrew Brennan as a partner, boosting the firm’s national intellectual property (IP) offering, and Bhavesh Amlani as a new real estate partner to head up the residential development and social housing team in Birmingham

Brennan, who has more than ten years’ experience, joins Shoosmiths from SGH Martineau’s IP and technology team, where he predominantly advised technology, manufacturing and education clients on contentious and non-contentious intellectual property and technology issues.

He has represented a range of clients including large national and international companies, SMEs, spin-outs and universities on all aspects of the innovation, product and brand lifecycles by helping them fund, protect, enforce and commercialise their IP.

Legal directories, Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 recommend him as a ‘leading individual’.

He said: “Shoosmiths is a major UK law firm with a great profile and a sophisticated IP offering. Its wide-ranging client base is similar to my own and I feel the firm is a good fit not only for me but for the work I do and how I go about doing my work.”

Amlani worked as a real estate lawyer for the last 15 years at SGH Martineau, specialising in multi-million pound development projects and investment work and advising national and regional developers, publicly listed house builders, household name retailers and private and corporate investors.

At Shoosmiths, Amlani will continue to advise clients on projects regionally and across the UK and contribute to the firm’s national strategy on residential development and social housing.

Shoosmiths head of the Birmingham office and head of real estate in Birmingham, Jason Jackson, said: “It is great to see Bhavesh joining us here in Shoosmiths, he has an excellent reputation among advisors in the sector and will add real value to the real estate team.”

SGH Martineau has recently merged with fellow Midlands law firm Shakespeares.
