Ultra awarded £18m submarine contract

DEFENCE supplier Ultra has been awarded a contract relating to the design and development of reactor control and cooling systems for Royal Navy submarines

The international defence, security, transport and energy group, which has operations in Birmingham and Staffordshire, will service the contract via its PMES business based in Rugeley.

The £18m contract, awarded by Rolls-Royce, is the result of a collaborative partnership between the two companies and it will aid Rolls-Royce in its delivery of the next generation propulsion power system for the future submarine fleet.

Rakesh Sharma, chief executive of Ultra, said: “We are delighted to have secured this new contract with the Royal Navy and Rolls Royce which recognises both Ultra’s capability to understand its customer’s needs and the confidence of the UK Navy in Ultra’s ability.

“We also look forward to further enhancing our relationship with Rolls Royce.”
