Games company backed by reinvestment trust

LEAMINGTON Spa games company Viewpoint Games is to develop its first virtual reality game after receiving a start-up loan from the Coventry and Warwickshire Reinvestment Trust (CWRT).

It has also received a grant from Creative England. Financial details have not been disclosed.

The company was established by Neil Wigfield and Neil Campbell who have worked in the computer games industry for more than 16 years.

Wigfield, who is design director, said: “We had worked in the industry for long enough to know that the next step for us both was to take on the challenge of creating our own games and so setting up our own studio has given us more creative freedom to do just that.

“Our business is focused on producing high quality games for the new generation of virtual reality headsets that are due to reach consumers during 2015/16.”

The company’s first offering, VR Karts, is an online multiplayer arcade racing game.

Mike Musson, chief executive of CWRT, said: “Leamington Spa is a hot spot for gaming start-ups, and we are excited to support Viewpoint Games during these early days.

“We believe that their management team, expertise and market knowledge will help the company thrive in a buoyant sector.”

CWRT offers start-up loans between £1,000 and £75,000 across the West Midlands region.
