Keele University announces new Deputy Vice-Chancellor

KEELE University has appointed Professor Mark Ormerod, currently Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Enterprise and the Environment as its new Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost.

Prof McMillan, Vice-Chancellor Designate, said: “Prof Ormerod has an exceptional academic background with an abundance of accomplishments during his time here at Keele. His knowledge of the sector and the institution will be central for the university during this next period of advancement and growth and underlines the university’s commitment to research and research-led teaching at the heart of its strategy. There was an excellent field of candidates for the role and we were delighted by the calibre of those interviewed.”

Prof Ormerod has a strong academic track record.  He graduated from Cambridge University in Natural Sciences in 1983 with first class honours with distinction and a PhD in Surface Chemistry and Catalysis in 1986. He was awarded the biennial Cambridge University Oppenheimer Research Fellowship, before moving to Keele in 1992.  

His roles at Keele have included being Head of School of Chemistry and Physics and Physical and Geographical Sciences and more recently he has overseen the university’s most successful research period as Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Enterprise, Environment and Sustainability. Prof Ormerod has published extensively during his career, publishing over 130 peer-reviewed research papers and continues to hold research interests in the fields of clean technology and sustainable materials chemistry.
