GBSLEP fills business support role

THE Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (GBSLEP) has formed a new role to lead the co-ordination of its Growth Hub, intended to create a one-stop shop for businesses seeking support, access to finance and regulatory advice.

Ian McLaughlan has joined the GBSLEP as Growth Hub manager, responsible for ensuring the hub is fully operational ahead of the launch in September.

He joins from Stoke & Staffs business support and economic development organisation Winning Moves where he was project manager.

In his new role he has a remit to lead the delivery of a business support system across the GBSLEP area.

The Growth Hub is comprised of a web-based portal designed to engage with all types of businesses with the ambition, appetite and potential to innovate and develop.

Mike Carr, GBSLEP programme delivery director, said: “Ian’s appointment signifies the GBSLEP’s aim to provide a holistic approach to business support, and through a single point of contact, managed by Ian, a business can connect to the information, advice or support it requires.”

McLaughlan added: “I have spent the past 14 years in business consultancy and support across the West Midlands having helped develop some key services including the Stoke & Staffs LEP business helpline.

“I also helped to attract major investment for Stoke & Staffs LEP initiatives such as the job and growth fund and have previously delivered the GBSLEP’s flagship leadership programme for small businesses – great200leaders.”
