Trio of West Midlands firms named in top 100 fastest growing technology businesses

THREE West Midland companies have been named in the latest list of the country’s fastest growing private technology, media and telecoms firms.

IT consultancy Edenhouse, based in Coleshill, Birmingham online travel agency, Click Travel and eTech Solutions, based in Shirley are all named in the annual Sunday Times Hiscox Tech Track 100 league table, which is published this weekend.
The table charts the progress of firms in terms of sales growth for the past three years.

The table shows that all three firms have slipped in the rankings from their positions last year but have nevertheless all seen growth over the three year period.

Edenhouse, which employs 194 people, came in 47th last year but has slipped to 64th now. Its sales over the period have risen 56% to £22.9m.

Click Travel, which has a workforce of 110, comes in 90th with growth of 46% and sales of £92.5m.

eTech, which supplies surveying software, is in 58th place, down from 36th last year. Its sales have risen 59% over the three year period to £7.2m. The company employs 125 people.

The firms appear with companies from around the UK, including flight search engine Skyscanner and peer-to-peer lending platform Funding Circle. Past league table stars include property website Zoopla, now valued at £1bn, and Just Eat, now worth £2.6bn.

The Tech Track 100 league table and awards programme is sponsored by Hiscox, Barclays, BDO and Business Growth Fund and compiled by Fast Track, the Oxford-based research and networking events firm.

Steve Langan, CEO of Hiscox Insurance Company, the title sponsor of the league table, said: “Tech is one of this country’s most exciting sectors right now. It’s a phenomenal success story with impressive growth and innovation that has shown the UK deserves its position as a tech hub. There is much that other sectors could – and should – learn from UK tech, particularly when it comes to staying relevant and being agile. Every single one of this year’s Tech Track 100 businesses has made an important contribution to its sector and the wider economy, and that’s something to be immensely proud of.”

This year’s Sunday Times Hiscox Tech Track 100 companies achieved, on average, sales growth of 86% a year over the last three years of accounts, from a combined total of £419m in 2011/12 to £2.2bn in 2014/15. They grew their workforce to almost 12,000, having added more than 8,000 jobs over the period, some as a result of acquisitions.

The majority of companies are headquartered in London (52) and the South East (15). Of the remainder, there are three companies in the West Midlands, five in the East Midlands, six each in the East and North East/Yorkshire, five in Scotland, four in the North West, three in the South West and one in Northern Ireland.
