Parcel delivery group looks to recruit 100 new jobs

CANNOCK-based parcel delivery group, APC Overnight is set to expand further with the creation of 100 new jobs.

The company stepped in earlier this year during a previous expansion phase by offering a lifeline to employees thrown out of work with the collapse of Coventry-based delivery group, City Link.

APC is now staging an open recruitment event at its Cannock sortation centre tomorrow (Wednesday) as it looks to recruit a further 100 positions.

The Kingswood Lakeside firm, which is the UK’s largest independent courier company, has already filled more than 40 roles and is hoping the recruitment day will see the remaining vacant positions taken.

In particular the next day delivery firm is looking for warehouse operatives for the night shift.

The company is looking to fill the positions as soon as it can as it approaches one of its busiest periods of the year in the run-up to Christmas.

Brett Kidson, APC Overnight Human Resources Manager, said: “We had a fantastic response to our first open recruitment day and are well on our way to filling these new roles. Due to our ongoing growth these new positions are not just for Christmas and we’re keen to speak to anyone looking to take up the opportunity of a full time career with us.”

The open event takes place between 4pm and 9pm.

The recruitment coincides with the announcement of two new senior appointments.

Andy Taylor, who was previously managing director of Inpost, has taken up the position of Network Director and will also join the company’s board of directors, while Colin Rann, formerly of FedEx, has taken over as Operations Director.

Both directors will report directly to Jonathan Smith, who joined APC Overnight in April as the company’s first externally appointed CEO.

Taylor’s primary role will be to streamline processes and improve service for the company’s extensive regional network.

He said: “Maintaining a consistent service throughout is integral to ensuring the company’s continued growth.”
