Coventry & Warks LEP secures skills funding

THE Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP) has received funding from a new national organisation set up by the government to improve skills in the area.

The Careers & Enterprise Company was launched by the Department of Education at the House of Lords to enable LEPs to recruit Enterprise Coordinators.

The CWLEP’s Enterprise Coordinator, who will be based at the Coventry and Warwickshire Growth Hub in Cheylesmore, will help to motivate, inspire and support young people to make informed choices about their future careers.

They will recruit voluntary Enterprise Advisers from entrepreneurs and employers who will help schools and colleges to develop an effective careers and enterprise plan.

Rachael Stewart, skills executive at the CWLEP, said the appointment was a key part of its skills strategy and the on-going work of the CWLEP Jobs & Skills Business Group.

“We are constantly evolving our skills strategy to support the CWLEP’s overall aims of creating jobs and boosting economic growth,” she said.

“We are among the LEPs who have been given funding to appoint an Enterprise Coordinator which is a really important position as we develop closer links between employers and schools, colleges, universities and training providers.

“Skills is a really important issue for employers in a wide range of sectors and the Enterprise Coordinator will create a network of Enterprise Advisers.”

She said the group would have a vital role to play in ensuring youngsters had the best possible careers and enterprise provision to make informed choices about their futures.

“We will be working with a range of learning providers from across the city and county to take the programme forward,” she added.

“Members of the Jobs & Skills and High Value Manufacturing Business Groups recognise the need to close the gap between the world of work and schools and colleges and we are looking for those who have set-up their own business or have experience in industry to become our Enterprise Advisers on a voluntary basis.

“The position of Enterprise Coordinator is a really exciting opportunity which is a fundamental part of our skills strategy.”
