Hadley Group goes Dutch to acquire steel manufacturer

SMETHWICK’S Hadley Group, the UK’s largest cold roll formed sections manufacturer, has acquired Holland’s Overeem BV in a multi-million pound deal.

The West Midlands firm says the acquisition will strengthen its global reach and support its growth in the automotive sectors and is is aligned with its strategy to be positioned within the global economy while establishing local understanding with effective local supply chains..

Overeem, which was founded 85 years ago, has more than 60 employees and a turnover of €16m (£11.2m), has built its reputation on the manufacture of complex specialist roll formed profiles primarily for Europe’s automotive industry. It also operates in sectors including construction, lighting, furniture, interior engineering and air conditioning control.

Stewart Towe, Hadley Group CEO, said: “Overeem provides us with a vital link in our chain of cold roll forming manufacturing sites which stretch from here in the West Midlands to South East Asia.

“I am especially excited by the prospect of developing the Dutch company’s product specialisation across our global platform. We will be combining our strong technical capabilities to achieve our growth plans for the Hadley Group as a whole.”

Formed more than 50 years ago, Hadley Group is the UK’s largest cold rolled steel manufacturer. Based in and around Smethwick in the West Midlands, the company operates from UK five sites as well as its overseas facilities in Germany, U.A.E and Thailand.

It employs around 500 people worldwide and has a turnover of around £100m.
