Former Solihull MP joins DBS law

BIRMINGHAM legal firm DBS Law has recruited former Solihull MP Lorely Burt.

Recently appointed as a life peer with the title Baroness Lorely Burt of Solihull, the Liberal Democrat politician was the town’s MP from 2005 until last year when she was beaten by the Conservative candidate at the General Election.

She has joined DBS as a non-executive director of the firm’s community interest company, DBS Heart, and will also act as a board adviser for the law firm.

DBS Law has also recruited senior solicitors Louise Johal and Fiona Moore and now more than 95% of legal positions at the law firm are held by women.

Davy Bal, chairman of DBS Law, said: “It has always great to be ahead of the curve and have a very open recruitment policy, outlined by the percentage of women we hire.”

“I expect, and would like to see, my successor to be one of our ‘leading ladies’ from our senior team. There aren’t enough women in management positions within law firms. That’s now where the legal sector needs to improve.”

Baroness Burt said: “As a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Women in Business, it’s great to be part of a company that has such a forward-thinking approach to recruitment in a sector which has commonly been associated as a bit of a boys’ club.”
