Dunlop blaze caused by ‘large appliance’ says fire service

WEST Midlands Fire Service has confirmed that the large blaze which caused severe damage to the offices of a Birmingham tyre company was caused by large electrical appliance.

The appliance has now been sent for further testing to establish how it caught fire.

Almost 100 firefighters from across Birmingham were drafted in to deal with the blaze at the offices of tyre manufacturer Goodyear Dunlop in Erdington on February 18.

The fire crews spent fire hours bringing the blaze under control.

The fire began in offices used by the company, whose former factory was sold to Jaguar Land Rover two years ago so the carmaker could expand its Castle Bromwich plant.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

The fire service tweeted this picture of the aftermath of the fire.
