THE director of a Mercedes-Benz servicing and repair garage has been charged with attempted murder following the stabbing of a pregnant woman on Friday.

Babur Karamat Raja, 41, from Sutton Coldfield, will appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court today charged with two counts of attempted murder and one of attempted child destruction. He has also been charged with assault and possession of a knife in a public place.

The attack took place on Friday and the unborn child was later safely delivered. The woman is described as being in a stable condition in hospital and her baby girl continues to do well.

The family of the victim said: “We’d all like to express our heartfelt thanks to everybody who helped her on Friday afternoon. Your fearlessness and selfless actions saved both their lives and we are overwhelming grateful to you all.

“We have no further comment to make and we’d ask you to respect our privacy at this difficult time.”
