Vehicle rental group invests in former JLR site

AMT Group has made a major investment in a 7,000 sq ft rental facility in central Birmingham, adding ten staff to its 180-strong team across the UK.

Moving from its former location in Nuneaton, the new site is the former Jaguar Land Rover car dealership in Erdington.

The vehicle rental specialist says the relocation will enable it to better serve corporate and private customers in the West Midlands.

AMT has seven locations from the South East to Scotland, including a new facility in Stockport which opened in December with the aim of developing rental markets in the North West, including giving improved access to Manchester and Liverpool airports, while also supporting its growing operation in Yorkshire.

This followed the £2m relocation of the company’s Leeds headquarters in March 2015.

These latest investments form part of its ambitious plans to expand and upgrade its nationwide network, focusing on improving customer accessibility from major cities and airports.

“Since launching 21 years ago, we have seen tremendous growth within the niche prestige and specialist vehicle rental sector and with more than 1,500 vehicles, we have built up one of the largest independent fleets in the UK,” said Neil McGawley, managing director of AMT Group.

“As demand from both the corporate and leisure markets continues, we have embarked on an ongoing programme of strategic location development to ensure that we are best placed to serve customers nationwide.”

Andy Crinson, general manager of AMT Vehicle Rental, said: “We have already established a loyal customer base in the West Midlands. The move to central Birmingham will enable us to take our operation in the region to the next level with the improved capacity at our new facility meaning that we can offer an even wider selection of the more unusual prestige and specialist vehicles for which we are renowned.”
