Gateley partner appointed to head up R3

A PARTNER at law firm Gateley has been announced as the new Midlands chair of insolvency trade body R3.

Restructuring lawyer Chris Radford succeeds Richard Philpott, a partner at KPMG, in the post after serving two years as his deputy.

Mr Radford’s career in corporate recovery began in 1989 and over the past 25 years he has been involved in many of the Midlands’ largest restructuring and insolvency assignments.

He currently heads up Gateley’s restructuring team within the firm’s corporate recovery group and advises lenders, insolvency practitioners, local companies and other stakeholders.

Mr Radford said: “The work of R3 members has never been more relevant than it is today.  Economic markets remain uncertain and business and personal debt levels, although falling, are still substantially elevated.  R3 provides valuable advice and support to both businesses and individuals negotiating corporate and personal debts, helping save thousands of companies and jobs in the process.

“As a professional body, we are strongly committed to supporting our insolvency practitioners as well as campaigning for businesses and individuals in crisis, and their creditors, in order to maximise outcomes for all concerned.

“R3’s key message for the Midlands is that it is imperative for companies or individuals in financial difficulty to seek immediate and timely professional advice.  Quite simply, the earlier we become involved, the greater the prospect of a rescue.”

The Midlands branch of R3 is one of the most active in the country, with close to 400 members specialising in advising companies and directors in financial difficulty.
