Chamber overhauls membership services to continue growth

THE Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce has overhauled its membership services to ensure it can continue to meet the needs of local businesses.

The chamber, which can trace its origins back to the Napoleonic Wars, said it needed a structure that was fit-for-purpose in the 21st century.

To mark its unique heritage, it has launched the new 1813 Club, which offers businesses of all sizes the chance to raise their profiles, while a top tier package promises to give members access to influential figures such Business Secretary Sajid Javid and Birmingham City Council leader John Clancy.

The GBCC currently has more than 2,600 members and has plans to increase this to more than 4,000 over the next three years through innovation of products and strategies.

The service overhaul, accompanied by a new-look designed by creative agency Orb, follows months of extensive research undertaken in the wake of Paul Faulkner taking over as the chamber’s chief executive.

Rob Bloxham, founder of Orb, said: “The chamber is a hugely important force in the region and to be entrusted by it to create a fresh, purposeful and vibrant brand that is set to play a crucial role in its future, while also reflecting its proud heritage, has been an honour.”

As part of the brand refresh, Future Faces will be fully integrated with the rest of the Greater Birmingham divisions and re-named the Future Faces Chamber of Commerce.

The membership packages will be delivered by an integrated membership team, which has helped to drive up membership by 8%.

Mr Faulkner said the overhaul was the culmination of extensive research, examining membership packages and the chamber’s digital services, including the launch of a new group-wide website.

“We are reaffirming our position and purpose to ‘Connect Support and Grow’ local businesses whether through membership or our vast range of business support services, and are excited by what we will be able to offer businesses going forward,” he said.

“The chamber has ambitious plans for growth that we make no apology for, and we look forward to playing an active role in the continued success of the region in the years to come.”
