University invests a further £4m in its upgrade

THE University of Wolverhampton has continued the latest phase of its £250m investment strategy with the appointment of a contractor to work on its £4m city centre campus.

Work on the campus, an integral part of the university’s Our Vision, Your Opportunity strategy, will be carried out by building contractor, M3.

The project will see catering facilities in the Millennium City Building extended and refurbished and the entrance to the building improved. Access to the Wulfruna Building will be improved further – in particular with access to the newly refurbished Chancellors’ Hall.

Jennifer Wood, the university’s Estates and Facilities Manager, said: “We’re really excited that work is about to start on our redevelopment in the city centre. Catering facilities at the Millennium City Building will be extended and improved.

“Our focus through this £4m redevelopment has been to expand and improve on the existing social and catering facilities available to students, staff and visitors. The courtyard area will also be landscaped and transformed to make it a more attractive environment for everyone who uses the campus.”

James Oliver, Managing Director at M3, said:  “We have worked over the past 10 years across a diverse range of sectors and locations. This project requires (us) to work within the live environment of the university, demanding careful planning and consideration of all staff and students.

“We were delighted to win the contract to deliver this city centre redevelopment project and we are committed, as part of the contract, to offering real work experience opportunities for apprentices and students currently studying at the university.”

The announcement comes just days after the university revealed it had awarded Shropshire developer Pave Aways a £10m contract to build its new Telford Innovation Campus.
