7 tips on arranging your desk to boost productivity

Although it may seem like deadlines and a demanding boss are the main sources of your stress in the office, the way you arrange and sit at your desk can actually have a significant impact on the way you work and your productivity. Take note of our tips if you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed whilst sat at your desk.

1) Clear your desk
You don’t need everything but the kitchen sink on your desk and if your desk is cluttered, you may struggle to focus on the task in hand. Take some time to have a clear out and throw away anything you don’t need.

2) Now organise it
After you’ve thrown out everything you don’t need, organise it all and give everything a place. Invest in desk top organisers, paper trays and pen holders and make sure everything you will need that day is in arm’s reach.

3) Put a plant on your desk
Placing plants around you can affect your productivity for the better as they help absorb unhealthy toxins around you and replaces it with oxygen, making you feel more productive and confident in your abilities.

4) Make sure you’re sat on a decent chair
You work at your best when you are comfortable and your posture is upright. If you’re sprawled across your desk, you’re not going to get much done. A decent chair will have a supportive back and cushioned seat and if you’re suffering from the occasional ache and pain, invest in a back support for your chair.

5) Use a laptop stand
Laptop stands are the perfect way to keep your posture intact and will keep you focused. Ideally, your laptop screen should be at eye length and an arm distance away from you for you to work well.

6) Inject a bit of personality
Place a picture of your loved ones or even something in your favourite colour on your desk. It will make you happier and more relaxed, meaning you can be more productive in your work.

7) Sort your desk out at the end of the day
Before you rush off home, take a few minutes to give your desk a clean. You can then come into work next day and be ready for the day ahead.
