Global education company acquires majority stake in Lichfield firm

A DIGITAL education company which is home to the world’s largest online supply teacher network, has acquired a majority stake in a Staffordshire supply teaching agency.

TES Global has taken the controlling interest in Lichfield-based ABC Teachers in an undisclosed deal.

TES said the acquisition was in line with the company’s strategy to enlarge its footprint in the Midlands supply network.

ABC joins Smart Teachers, which serves the London school market, and Vision for Education, covering the North of England, in TES’s growing supply network.

ABC, which was founded in 2005, expanded its operations with the opening of a second branch in Loughborough in 2014. ABC works with primary, secondary and special education teachers as well as support staff. Its scope covers schools Staffordshire, the West Midlands, East Midlands, Coventry, Warwickshire and Shropshire.

Rob Grimshaw, CEO of TES Global said: “ABC Teachers is a growing business and this acquisition will allow TES to extend its supply teaching footprint and offer schools across the Midlands a solution for finding high-quality talent for hard-to-fill teaching roles.

“Our recent survey of school leaders across the UK suggests that over 25% may increase their use of supply teachers. Our existing supply businesses have benefited from becoming part of the TES network, and with ABC providing additional geographic coverage there is great potential for continued growth.”

Luke Jackson, founder of ABC, said: “I am thrilled that ABC has joined TES’s growing network of supply teaching businesses. The potential synergies within the TES group and opportunities to enhance the services we can provide schools and teachers are very exciting.”

TES has been supporting educators for more than a century and currently has more than 8 million registered users. In the UK, TES is home to the country’s leading teacher recruitment business, a national supply teaching business and the TES Institute for teacher training. It supports global higher education through the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, THE magazine and the world’s leading academic jobs board Unijobs.
