Travel Alert: M6 subject to major delays

12.30pm Update

Conditions are now easing and delays are said to be down to just 10 minutes, although queues are still affecting the M5 northbound with its connection to the M6.

There are currently reports of major disruption to the M6 nothbound through the conurbation due to two incidents involving broken down vehicles.

Between junctions 11 (Cannock) and 10 (Walsall) two lanes are closed and there are reports of long delays with traffic queing back to Junction 7 (Great Barr).

The delays are also causing problems at Junction 8, the connection with the M5, where traffic is also queuing as it attempts to join the M6.

The disruption has been caused by a broken down lorry and recovery of the vehicle.

Travel time around the incident is currently said to be at least 40 minutes although Highways England has said it could be more than an hour before the situation clears.

Drivers navigating their way through the queues have also been warned about a second problem on the M6 northbound, this time at Junction 12 (Gailey), again due to a broken down vehicle.
