5 signs you need a break

We weren’t made to work 50 hour weeks and bust our backs over unpaid overtime. Working yourself too hard without any holiday days or rest will result in extreme exhaustion and eventually, burnout. If you’re a bit of a workaholic and need a reason to take a holiday, any of these signs would be a suitable excuse to get out of the office.

1. Mistakes

Human error is natural, but not when you start doing it regularly. That’s when you know you need a break. Working yourself to death isn’t good for anyone, especially when you’re doing the work to a poor standard.

2. No motivation

You’ve worked yourself so hard that now you’re beginning to lose the will to live. There’s too much work to do and too little time and that can be a demotivating concept.

3. Life gets neglected

It’s impossible to fit in family time and even your downtime is punctuated by work thoughts. Your otherwise very tamed facial hair is more face bush than beard. That’s when you seriously know you need a break to get yourself refreshed and in a more productive state for when you return to work.

4. You’re irritable

Whether you’re at home or at work, everything is getting on your nerves. You have no patience and people annoy you more than anything – especially when they ask the same question twice.

5. Extreme fatigue is a daily issue

You feel like napping at your desk because work has become a priority and you’re not taking enough time for yourself. If others start commenting on your eye bags or generally weary appearance, you desperately fill out a holiday form, pronto.

Taking a four day weekend to eat properly, socialise and rest will help you regain your energy and strength and enable you to refocus and set priorities on your return.
