NEC Group catering arm secures new £16m events contract

THE catering arm of the NEC Group has secured a £16m to supply one of the UK’s newest conference and events venues.

The contract will see the company supply catering services to all events staged at the Belfast Waterfront and Ulster Hall (BWUH) in Northern Ireland for the next five years.

Amadeus has been operational for 40 years – 25 of which have been as the caterer for the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham.

Kevin Watson, managing director, Amadeus said: “I am delighted that Amadeus has been awarded the contract at Belfast Waterfront and Ulster Hall.  The venue fits perfectly within our existing portfolio, enhancing our growth programme, and draws on our extensive experience of catering at the NEC Group’s convention centres – the ICC and the recently opened Vox in Resorts World Birmingham.”

Amadeus has launched a local recruitment drive to secure the staff it needs to service the new contract.

Chris Reynolds, sales manager, said: “We will be bringing in some of our experienced management team from the ICC to help support the growth programme with our board being actively involved in the mobilisation.”

Elllvena Graham, chair of the board of BWUH, which operates both Belfast Waterfront and Ulster Hall, said Amadeus’ wealth of experience in the sector had been key to its decision to appoint the firm.

The deal, which was headed up by Chris Reynolds comes following Belfast City Council’s £150m Investment Programme launched in 2016 which is aimed at supporting local businesses and creating employment.
