KWB uses HS2 to stay on the right track for fundraising effort

THE significance of the HS2 high speed rail network to Birmingham has proved the inspiration for a fundraising drive by property management firm KWB.

The firm has arranged for two teams to cycle the length of the HS2 route between Manchester and London to raise money for a Birmingham charity.

Bike on Track, sees volunteers from KWB split the route into two – with one team cycling north, from London to Birmingham and the other heading from south from Manchester to the second city.

The challenge totals 200+ miles and KWB intends to complete both routes to Birmingham between sunrise and sunset on Sunday (May 8).

All proceeds from the ride will be in aid of Woodlands Adventure, which is run by the Birmingham Boys & Girls Union.

The epic cycle ride is the first in a series of KWB-run fundraising events in aid of Woodlands Adventure & Outdoor Learning. The charity’s work is focused on making the centre available and accessible to all children, with particular emphasis on disabled children and children with special needs, as well as those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Mark Lenton, a director at KWB, who sits on the board of trustees for Birmingham Boys & Girls Union, said: “The BBGU has always struggled for funding. Having the most up-to-date safety equipment and a healthy sized team of well-trained staff is of the utmost importance and, whilst the camp is owned, the revenue stream does not always cover those costs.”

The city’s commercial property sector has already given its backing to the cycle ride, with many pledging donations.

John Bryce, fellow director of KWB, said: “We wanted to do something adventurous and outdoors, to echo some of the ideals that Woodlands Adventure embodies – we’re trying to practice what they preach.

“I would like to encourage our peers in the Birmingham corporate world to donate to the event. In doing so, they’ll be making a great contribution that will make a noticeable impact to this cause. Generally speaking, the significance of the future HS2 on Birmingham’s economy is a language we all speak, we hope that by cycling this route specifically we will generate a healthy sum for The BBGU.”
