Ikea to open new format store in Birmingham city centre

IKEA is to create 30 jobs when it opens an order and collection centre in Birmingham this summer.

The retailer has chosen the city for the third of its new format stores, which will be located at Dale End in Birmingham city centre.

It will take over the space previously occupied by Toys R Us, although the site has been empty for 10 years since the retailer closed.

The site follows on from the launch of the format in Norwich late last year with Aberdeen set to open next week. It will act mainly as a studio to plan and order more complex purchases such as kitchens, wardrobes and sofas.

IKEA order and collection development manager Jack Jackson said: “By introducing an Order and Collection Point in this market we want to bridge the gap between online and in-store shopping and offer customers a new way to shop with IKEA.”

The Birmingham store is part of a test for the Scandinavian retailer to make it more accessible to many more people.
