Travel Alert: Points failure creates major disruption to rail journeys

Virgin Trains West Coast Northbound services between Birmingham International and Birmingham New Street are subject to disruptions because of ongoing signalling problems.

Meanwhile, the operator has warned of continuing delays to services at Stafford.

Due to a speed restriction over defective track at Stafford, trains have to run at reduced speed on some northbound lines. Train services through this station are likely to be disrupted for the rest of the day.

In addition, London Midland has cancelled some services between Birmingham International and Birmingham New Street because of the signalling problem.

 

RAIL passengers have been warned of long delays between Stafford and Wolverhampton due to a points failure.

Services have been suspended on Virgin Trains West Coast Southbound between Crewe and Birmingham New Street due to the problem.

The problem is causing delays as some Stafford trains are having to run at reduced speed on some northbound lines.

Disruption to services is expected for the rest of today, with some services facing delays of up to an hour.
