JCB wins £16.5m order as plant hire firm upgrades fleet

STAFFORDSHIRE excavator manufacturer JCB is to benefit from a £16.5m fleet upgrade by a Merseyside-based plant hire business.

Haydock-based Plant Hire UK is celebrating 10 years in business with a massive investment in new equipment.

It has placed an order for almost 400 new machines in a deal which is worth £16.5m to the manufacturer.

The bulk of the order is for 300 Loadall telescopic handlers, manufactured at JCB’s Rocester headquarters. The deal also includes a fleet of site dumpers.

The investment comes as Plant Hire marks two major milestones – 10 years’ successful trading and the purchase of its 2,000th JCB machine. The latest additions to the fleet will be delivered throughout 2016.

Plant Hire UK – founded by Graham Jones and Finance Director Wayne Illidge – is also investing heavily in its facilities.

Mr Jones said: “We aim to have one of the youngest fleets of machines in the industry and this latest investment will put Plant Hire UK at the forefront of the sector. We aim to be the best in the industry too and that means having the best people, the best customer service and the best machines.”

The machines will be supplied through JCB dealer Gunn JCB.
