Traffic Alert: Motorway badly congested after accident

THE area is still affected by serious congestion with long delays to journey times.

DRIVERS are being warned of long delays on the M42 northbound around Birmingham Airport following an earlier accident.

The section of motorway between junctions 4 (Shirley) and 7 is heavily congested with delays of around an hour on normal journey times.

Highways England have said the situation is unlikely to clear until around 5pm.

Drivers – especially those heading to the airport – have been told to allow extra time for their journey or avoid the area if possible.

The congestion was also affecting the M6 southbound between the M6 Toll and Corley Services because of debris on the carriageway.

Although all lanes have been re-opened there is still severe congestion in the area.

Meanwhile, on the M54 eastbound between junctions three at Albrighton and two, Wolverhampton, there are severe delays following an earlier accident.
