Traffic Alert: Overturned vehicle causes 90 minute delays to motorway users

The situation is now clear but there are reports of delays on the southbound carriageway of the M42 on the approach to Junction 6, the exit for Birmingham Airport.

One lane is blocked on the slip road and delays in the area are said to be severe.

There are long delays on the M42 northbound in Worcestershire following an overturned vehicle.

One lane has been closed off for recovery work and Highways England has warned of delays of anything up to 90 minutes against normal travelling time.

The section between Junction 3 for Portway and 3a for the M40 is severely affected with traffic queuing back to the M5 and Junction 4a.

People have been advised to allow extra time for journeys, especially those heading for Birmingham Airport, and where possible, source alternative routes.  

Highways England has warned the situation is unlikely to return to normal until at least 9am.
