Traffic Alert: Separate accidents cause chaos to Midlands motorway network

MOTORISTS have been warned of severe delays affecting the M6 around Birmingham and further south in Warwickshire following a separate accidents.

Three lanes of the M6 northbound between junctions 5 (Castle Bromwich) and 6 (Spaghetti Junction) are closed as emergency services deal with the aftermath of a collision between three lorries.

Highways England is warning of delays of up to an hour around the scene and the motorway is not expected to return to normal until at least 1pm.

Congestion is currently back to junction 4a, the connection with the M42.

There is also severe disruption to the southbound carriageway of the M6 between junctions 2 (Coventry/Ansty Park/M69) and 1 (Rugby/M1).

Two lanes are currently closed and highways engineers are having to deal with a fuel spillage as a result of the accident.

Highways England is warning of delays of up to 80 minutes on normal travel times and drivers have been advised to avoid the area if possible.

Congestion is currently stretching back to junction 3, the exit for Coventry.

Elsewhere, the A46 in Worcestershire is currently closed southbound between the A44 (Bengeworth) and the A4184 (Cheltenam Road) while police deal with a serious incident involving an overturned lorry.

Local diversions are in place but drivers have been advised to avoid the area if possible as the situation is unlikely to clear until around midday.
