Jaguar gives UK debut to new F-Pace crossover

THE Solihull-built Jaguar F-Pace sports crossover goes on sale in the UK officially for the first time today.

The new car is Jaguar’s first sports utility vehicle (SUV); a segment more attuned to its Land Rover stablemate.

However, that has not put buyers off – far from it.

The company revealed earlier this month that the car was already the fastest selling Jaguar of all time – outstripping even the popularity of its best-selling, and fellow Solihull offering, the XE.

Thousands of orders have already been taken for the car and estimates are that there is a six-month waiting list for delivery.

JLR’s Lode Lane plant, until now more famous for Land Rover, has seen massive investment in recent years with a new aluminium bodyshop and production facilities installed ready for the manufacture of the new car.

The launch of the XE and F-Pace have also been heralded by the creation of thousands of more jobs at the plant.

Jaguar is hoping that car will appeal to a new younger buyer and the car is particularly being marketed at women where the SUV is a popular option.

The strategy has worked well for the Range Rover Evoque, which received an initial boost after Victoria Beckham was drafted in as a style consultant for the off-roader.

Jaguar is optimistic that the F-Pace will also find its own market, competing against the likes of the Porsche Macan and BMW X3 rather than taking sales away from Range Rover.

Prices for the F-Pace start from £34,170 for an entry level, rear-wheel-only model and rising to £36,110 for the all-wheel-drive model. Both are fitted with the Wolverhampton-manufactured Ingenium engine.

The eight-speed automatic version of the car rises to £37,860 and the flagship is the high performance R-Sport model which will set owners back £51,450.
