Fencing manufacturer does a roaring trade with big cats

A WOLVERHAMPTON manufacturer is doing a roaring trade working with big cats – and it’s nothing to do with Jaguar Land Rover.

Fencing manufacturer Zaun is increasingly being sought out by zoos and safari parks to help with the design of their lion and tiger enclosures.

The company is currently supplying its products to the famous Longleat Safari and Adventure Park in Wiltshire, while it has also supplied fencing for the big cat enclosure at Riga Zoo in the Latvian capital.

Zaun was also involved in the recent reopening of London Zoo’s Asiatic lion enclosure after a £5.7m project to create the Land of the Lions, which covers more than 2,500m²  – half the size of a football pitch and five times the size of the previous enclosure.

Paul Fidgett, sales manager, Zaun said: “It’s something we’ve never really pushed and we’ve just had a steady trickle of zoo projects over the years.  But for some reason in 2016, we’ve been inundated with enquiries from zoos, especially for their big cat enclosures, as the efforts to conserve endangered species ramps up.”

Its expertise in the sector dates back to 2003 when it first installed its Duo fencing around the tiger enclosure at the Isle of Wight Zoo in Sandown.
