Oil spillage causes seven-mile tailbacks for motorway drivers

A SPILLAGE of hydraulic fluid brought the M5 to a standstill in part of Worcestershire, with motorists stuck in queues which at one point tailed back more than seven miles.

The incident, which occurred yesterday afternoon, caused severe congestion to the southbound carriageway between Droitwich and Worcester as the carriageway was closed so a special clean-up crew could clear the mess.

The engineers worked well into the night to clear the problem.

Motorists were stuck in the queues for several hours and those who diverted from the motorway encountered problems on minor routes.

Highways England tweeted earlier this morning that the road was now clear and there are no reports of problems this morning.
