Black Country manufacturer reaches for the sky at Farnborough

A BLACK Country manufacturer is targeting new business in the aerospace sector by taking part in this year’s Farnborough Airshow.

Brierley Hill-based Alloy Wire International will be one of the firm’s exhibiting in the Midlands Aerospace Alliance’s Pavilion during the show, which takes place between July 11-17.

The company is a leading supplier of precision, drawn, flat and shaped wire, for which the aerospace market is an obvious outlet.

AWI, which this year celebrates its 70th anniversary, will be showcasing its extensive range of more than 50 nickel High Performance alloys that are commonly used in aircraft fire detection, engine retaining rings, fasteners, high-temperature seals and engine compression springs.

It already has a strong reputation in the sector, being an approved supplier to the likes of BAE Systems, Raytheon Jets and Westland.

Tom Mander, the firm’s sales executive, said: “The aerospace sector demands the highest quality material and fast turnaround on orders, two attributes we have built our business on.

“The Farnborough Airshow is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our capability and exciting new alloys that offer high corrosion resistance and high temperature properties…ideal for critical aerospace parts.”

AWI currently supplies around 4,000 customers in 15 sectors across 45 countries.

The company, which is owned completely by its employees, recently put the finishing touches to a £700,000 investment in new plant that has seen it install three Zwick tensile and hardness testing machines, PMI material x-ray guns, fully automated multi spindle spooling machine, a five-metre strand annealing furnace and a bespoke wire finishing line.
