Charity chief to tell city’s business chiefs ‘lead with authenticity and compassion’

THE chief executive of a major charity is to address Birmingham’s business community on the importance of leading with authenticity and compassion’.

Loretta Minghella, chief executive of Christian Aid, will be the guest speaker at ChaplaincyPlus’ annual networking breakfast on Monday (June 27).

The Birmingham prayer breakfast, staged in partnership with St Philips Cathedral, takes place at the ICC between 7 and 9am.

Ms Minghella, a former CEO of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme and with vast experience of the legal and financial professions, will focus on the need for all Birmingham sectors – business, civic, wider community – to work together in the current economic climate for the long-term good of the city and our nation.

She said: “I love the way Birmingham embraces its diversity. It doesn’t hide from the challenges diversity presents but celebrates the opportunities of difference and models many practices the world needs.

“I have learned through painful experiences you cannot lead successfully without authenticity and compassion, which is a huge challenge in business.

“Dealing with tensions created by short-term pressures while maintaining a long-term vision requires real leadership. Responding to the challenge of climate change is a great example of this.”

She said she would be looking at what leading with these qualities really means, and intended to draw on her own experiences from all over the world, including in some of the most impoverished countries.

The event is a unique networking opportunity and offers the chance for the business, public sector, churches, and other faith communities to all come together.

ChaplaincyPlus is a registered charity that supports the Birmingham business community through networking events and seminars and offers free, confidential, one-to-one support for professionals struggling with work pressures or wanting to live wholeheartedly in the workplace.
