Traffic Alert: Long delays after accident shuts busy road

MOTORISTS in the West Midlands are being warned of long delays following a spate of accidents both on and off the motorway network.

There are currently delyas to the M5 southbound between Junction 4a, the exit for the M42 and Junction 3 (Halesowen). One lane is closed following an accident between two cars and a van. Congestion is stretching back to Junction 3.

Drivers have been urged to avouid the area if possible, with delays increasing.

The A49 south of Shrewsbury is also a major troublespot.

There are severe delays following an earlier accident which has closed the road completely. Highways England has said it is unlikely to be until at least 9.30pm before the situation returns to normal.

There are currently delays of up to 50 minutes for traffic heading north off the M54 towards the A5 on the approaches to Shrewsbury.
