Contractor appointed to £50m warehouse development

A £50m commercial development at Coventry Airport has moved forward with the appointment of contractors.

Rigby Real Estate, part of the Rigby Group, has appointed Derby-based Bowmer & Kirkland to construct Imperial Park, which will consist of the three Grade ‘A’ distribution warehouses, totalling 575,000 sq ft of commercial space.

Imperial Park, which secured planning consent earlier this month, covers 29 acres and is being targeted at the logistics and distribution sector.
The three buildings comprise 350,000 sq ft, 165,000 sq ft and 60,000 sq ft respectively.

The site was recently acquired by M&G Real Estate, one of the UK’s largest property investors, which is also funding the construction in a £50.6m investment.

Andrew Cox, of Rigby Real Estate, said that work was expected to start in August.

He said: “We are delighted to be working with Bowmer & Kirkland who have a proven track record. With full planning consent now granted and the contractor in place, the development will move at a pace and is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2017.

“We have had strong interest in the units because the site is ideally situated for logistics operators and manufacturers and Imperial Park will make a very positive contribution the Coventry and Warwickshire, and wider regional economy.”

Bowmer & Kirkland is currently constructing the £35m, 13-storey, 150,000 sq ft headquarters for Coventry City Council at Friargate.

John Clarke, regional director, Bowmer & Kirkland said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract by Rigby Real Estate and look forward to working closely with the client and his team to successfully deliver this prestigious project.”
