Birmingham bank agrees new sport sponsorship deal

BIRMINGHAM-based Al Rayan Bank (UK) has looked to raise its profile by agreeing a high sports sponsorship deal.

The bank will sponsor Leicestershire County Cricket Club and its promising player, left-arm fast bowler Atif Sheikh.

The 25-year-old, who won plaudits for his recent tourist performance against Sri Lanka, was the last player to take a hat-trick for the club in first-class cricket. The bowler achieved that feat against Gloucestershire at Bristol in 2014.

Al Rayan Bank has also become a member of Leicestershire County Cricket Club’s 1879 Club, which includes advertising at the Fischer County Ground, the opportunity to attend matches, and the chance to attend exclusive networking events.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Sultan Choudhury, ‎CEO, Al Rayan Bank, said: “We aim to support initiatives in the communities where our customers live and work.  As one of our branches is in Leicester, a city that holds cricket close to its heart, this is a great opportunity for us to give something back through our sponsorship of the club and of Atif Sheikh.”

Wasim Khan, chief executive of Leicestershire County Cricket Club and a former member of the Warwickshire CCC playing staff, said: “It’s great to have such a prestigious brand as Al Rayan Bank on board as a sponsor to the club and we look forward to working alongside the business in the future. To have their backing is testament to the support we enjoy from businesses throughout our region.”
