Train operator invests £400,000 to improve passenger safety

TRAIN operator Chiltern Railways has made a £400,000 investment to improve passenger safety and help deter crime at its stations.

The company is upgrading and enhancing CCTV coverage at stations along its Mainline, including Solihull, Dorridge and Warwick Parkway.

In addition to a full upgrade of system, 136 new cameras have been installed taking the total across the route to more than 800.

The train company said the improvements would allow it to conduct more proactive monitoring of the network, provide assurance and enhanced public safety and greater security of public property at stations, including cycle storage areas.

Other benefits include a safer environment for staff and increased monitoring available for safety-related incidents.  The company can also more easily provide evidence in cases against people who commit crime on the railways or to railway property.

Jenny Payne, customer services director, said: “Ensuring our passengers and staff are safe is key as we strive to deliver a first-class railway. This investment ensures that stations on our route benefit from the latest surveillance technology.”
